(KTNC) -- A Falls City High School graduate has received a stipend for undergraduate research from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Justin Elwonger is one of 44 UNL undergraduates awarded stipends to participate in research with a faculty mentor this summer.
Elwonger is a mathematics major. He will pursue a research project titled “Regional Differences in Perceptions of Volcanoes and Earthquakes.”
The stipend is part of UNL’s Undergraduate Creative Activities and Research Experience – or UCARE – Program. Students in the program receive stipends of $2,400 to engage in intensive research or creative activity for 20 hours per week.
The projects span across academic disciplines, including engineering, chemistry, modern languages and literature, psychology, art and art history, economics, architecture, special education, and fisheries and wildlife.
Students will also be able to participate in workshops and activities with undergraduates from other institutions who are participating in UNL’s Summer Research Program. Students will present posters on their research and activities at a campus research symposium in August.
