(KTNC) -- Hours are set to change at the Johnson,Nebraska Post Office.
Effective at the end of the month, the facility will be open four hours each weekday, under the Post Office Structure Plan.
Thirty people attended an informational meeting last month to learn more about the plans for the facility.
According to Wes Gronemyer, the area manager of Post Office operations, the proposed hours are 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, with window service hours from 8:15 to 9:00 a.m. Saturday. The blue collection box would remain outside the Post Office, with collection at 3:00 p.m., and the lobby would be open 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
Of the 167 Johnson postal patrons who returned a survey, 157 supported the new hours. One favored roadside mailbox delivery and nine surveys were blank. No one favored going to a village post office or relocating post office delivery to a nearby facility. The closest post office to Johnson is in Auburn, eight miles away.
Gronemyer noted that the U.S. Postal Service has seen a 27-percent decline in retail visits from 2005 to 2011 as more people do business online.
