(KTNC) - The Omaha Public Power District announced it has made its annual payment in lieu of taxes to counties in its 11-county service territory.
The payments are based on five-percent of OPPD’s gross revenues from retail electricity sales in incorporated cities and towns during the previous year.
The payment to Richardson County totaled $14,128, which is approximately $1,000 more than last year.
The payment to Nemaha County was $39,849 and the payment to Johnson County was $15,106.
OPPD payments in lieu of taxes totaled more than $30.7 million. The largest payment, nearly $25 million, was to Douglas County, with another $4.4 million payment to Sarpy County.
According to OPPD Board member Fred Ulrich, this year’s payment represents a 7.9 percent revenue increase for the utility over the 2012 payment.
