(KAIR)--An Atchison man was taken into custody Thursday on a District Court warrant that had been issued in connection with an incident that allegedly took place in January.
According to Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson, 20-year-old Devan Newson was arrested on January 12th on a Municipal Court warrant for failing to appear in court. As he was being booked into the Atchison County Jail, officers discovered what appeared to be marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his possession.
Newson was charged in Municipal Court with one count of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The case was filed with the Atchison County Attorney, who filed the same charges in District Court. A warrant was then issued for Newson's arrest.
The Municipal Court charges were dismissed.
Newson has since been released on bond.
