(KNZA)--Summerfield Elementary School students will attend school at the Axtell facility, beginning next school year.
Prairie Hills USD 113 Superintendent Dr. Bill Orth says the Board of Education unanimously approved the move during their regular meeting Monday evening.
The action came following a presentation showing the Axtell school could be renovated to allow for the housing of all students pre-k through 12th grade.
The cost was estimated at about $100,000 to make the changes necessary from adding walls to reconfiguring rooms. The renovation work would be done by mid-July.
Orth said transferring the Summerfield students to Axtell would pay for itself in about a year.
The board had voted about two years ago to close the Summerfield school.
An open house will be held March 24th from 7 to 9 in the evening at the Axtell School for all students and parents. Parents and students will have an opportunity to tour the building and see the reconfiguration plans.
