(KLZA) -- The UNL Extension Office in Nemaha County will be hosting a crop marketing workshop in Auburn on February 28, 2014 at 1:30 P-M at the Nemaha County Hospital.
Last year UNL rolled out a new crop marketing program, called “Marketing in a New Era,” or MINE. This educational program combines basic information on crop marketing with an electronic crop marketing simulation game designed to educate producers and develop their skills in marketing. Users will learn how market fluctuations, crop insurance, target prices, decision dates, pricing tools, and strategies work together to secure a profit.
Support from the Nebraska Soybean Board and the North Central Risk Management Education Center has enabled UNL to develop the new computer software and also obtain a traveling computer lab with 20 laptops which accommodates from 20 to 40 or more participants.
The Auburn workshop will feature Tim Lemmons, Extension Educator from Norfolk and Monte Vandeveer, Extension Educator from Otoe County. Both work in the area of farm management and have been conducting educational programs around the state in this area. They will review cost of production issues related to marketing goals, as well as walk participants through the computer simulation.
This event is free to participants thanks to grant dollars and the support of local sponsors.
The 2½-hour event is scheduled to begin at 1:30 P-M on Friday, February 28th at the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn. Space will be limited, so registration is required. Call the Nemaha County Extension Office at 402-274-4755 no later than Monday, February 24th to reserve a spot.
