(KAIR)--More progress has been made on the road projects in Atchison County that were made possible by a safety grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation. County Commission Chair Jeff Schuele says the commission heard an update from BG Consultants on the projects, and the next step in the process should take place in the next few months. He says KDOT typically gives about four months for bid letting to give companies enough time to do it and the project should start sometime this summer.
The three intersections involved are located along 262nd Road at Osborne, Ottawa, and Rawlins Roads. Schuele says the intersection of 262nd and Ottawa has especially been a concern with county residents, and KDOT has been having multiple counties fix these types of Y intersections.
The KDOT safety grant covers 90 percent of the cost to make the improvements, with the county responsible for the remaining 10 percent, plus any additional engineering costs.
