Three Injured in Crash South of Plattsmouth
02/17/2014

(KTNC) --  Three people were critically injured in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 75 south of Plattsmouth Saturday night.
According to the Omaha World-Herald, 23-year-old Tyler Westerfield of Johnson, 21-year-old Natasha Rice of Omaha, and 22-year-old Samantha Rowell of Bellevue were taken to Creighton University Medical Center following the collision.
According to the World-Herald, investigators with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office say Westerfield was driving a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix north in the southbound lane of Highway 75 near Wiles Road at about 9:00 p.m. Saturday. Rice was driving south and Rowell was a passenger in her car.
Authorities say Rice saw Westerfield and swerved to the left just as he apparently became aware he was in the wrong lane and tried to re-enter the correct lane. The cars collided head-on in the center of the road.
The Jaws of Life were used to free Westerfield from his vehicle, and he, Rice and Rowell were taken to the hospital by ambulance. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident.
