(KAIR)--Atchison City Commissioners take Monday off for the Presidents Day Holiday, but will be back to work Tuesday for their regular meeting.
Among the issues to be explored when they convene at City Hall is a request to purchase new body armor for the Police Department's Special Response Team.
Police Chief Mike Wilson says the current armor being used dates back to the 1990's, meaning it's time for a replacement. “Our tactical team has been organized since 1997. The body armor that they are currently wearing, an extended body armor then what they wear day to day, has been worn since the early years of the creation of the Special Response Team. It's time to replace ten of those body armors we're bringing it before the Commission Tuesday. It's going to be funded by not only the equipment replacement plan but also monies from the drug seizure account.”
The Commission will decide whether or not to accept the bid of $21,869 for the Point Blank armor vests from the Southern Uniform Equipment Company.
That will happen when they meet Tuesday beginning at 4:30 at Atchison's City Hall.
