City of Marysville to Buy Historic Depot
(KMZA)--The city of Marysville will purchase the town’s historic depot and surrounding land.
The Marysville Advocate reports the City Council voted unanimously this week to purchase the property from the Union Pacific Railroad for $151,000.
Once the purchase is complete, the Council plans to sell the building along with the north and south parking areas to a local preservation group for $20,000.
The vote allows the Marysville Union Pacific Depot Preservation Society to begin fundraising to restore and preserve the historic 1929 train depot.
Union Pacific has agreed to cover costs of remediation of the depot’s lead paint and asbestos up to a maximum of $177,000.
