Students Celebrate National Catholic Schools Week
01/30/2014

(KAIR)--Catholic schools all over the area are in the spotlight as students, parents, and teachers celebrate National Catholic Schools Week, and that is especially true here in Atchison. St. Benedict Catholic School Principal Diane Liebsch  says the week long celebration started forty years ago, organized by the National Catholic Education Association, and has become an event celebrated by many Catholic schools around the country.

Liebsch says she enjoys the feeling of unity and togetherness promoted during the week. On Monday, her school had a special family mass, in which many family members of both students and staff were invited to attend. She adds that the chance to gather together in this way is really important to the school, and they talk about that with the children.

Catholic School Week starts the last Sunday in January and runs all week. Schools typically observe the week with special masses, open houses, and other events. Through these events, schools focus on the value of Catholic education and its value to young people.
