Vehicle Burglaries Investigated In Jackson Co

(KNZA)--Two vehicle related burglaries are under investigation by Jackson County authorities, with both happening sometime Thursday night at two separate eastern Jackson County addresses.

Sheriff Tim Morse says the first happened in the area of 17500 278th Road in northeastern Jackson County, while the second occurred near 16500 134th Road in southeastern Jackson County.

In both burglaries, the vehicles had been left unlocked and firearms were taken.

Morse says his investigators are working with neighboring counties who experienced similar crimes in the same time frame.

The incidents are similar to burglary cases that happened in late November when rural Jackson County residents, near the Atchison and Brown County lines, were ripped off, with one case involving the theft of a firearm.

Morse says a white 90's era Chevy Blazer was seen in the area of those burglaries, and it continues to be a vehicle of interest.

Morse is urging residents to keep firearms stored in secure locations and to not leave valuable items inside of vehicles. Doors should always be locked and keys should never be left in the ignition.

Morse is encouraging anyone with information about any of the burglaries to contact his office at 785-364-2251.

He also requests that all suspicious activity be reported, but warns against confronting burglars as they may be armed and dangerous.
