(KAIR)--Roads in Atchison County will soon be a little safer, thanks to a little help from the Kansas Department of Transportation.
County Commission Chair Jeff Schuele says the county applied for, and received a safety grant from KDOT last year, and now they are working to put it to use along 262nd road. There are three Y intersections on that road the county is looking to eliminate. However, before construction can start, an engineering company has to be selected to review the plan, and ensure that it's done properly.
Schuele says the commission selected three people to review and select several different engineering companies. Selected were County Coordinator Chris Channel, Commissioner Bill Pohl, and County Road and Bridge Superintendent Matt Dorsom.
Schuele says the the public will be notified well in advance of any detours involved with the effected intersections.
KDOT will pay for 90 percent of the total cost, with the county paying the remaining 10 percent.
