(KAIR)--Nearly two dozen Atchison residents braved the cold, windy evening to honor the life and memory of the late civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The crowd gathered in front of City Hall shortly before 6:30, prepared to make the short march to the United Methodist Church. Reverend Michael Kelly, pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church says they are seeking to honor Dr. King by conducting their own march to promote the dream he had for his own community. Kelley also says that while we have achieved so much already, there is still a long way to go.
Atchison resident John Bishop states he tries his best to attend each of these yearly services, as he firmly believes in the ideals preached by Dr. King, and that he did a lot to help make this a far more equitable and open nation through his dedication and service.
After the short march, participants gathered in the sanctuary of the Atchison United Methodist Church for a Community Worship Service to remember the life and service of Dr. King. The event was presented by the Atchison Area Ministerial Alliance.
