(KAIR)--Two Atchison men were arrested following an alleged break-in at an Atchison County rock quarry.
Deputies with the Atchison County Sheriff's Department responded to a call from an alarm company regarding a possible break in at the old Bromley Quarry, located in the 10-thousand block of Sedgwick Rd around 7:15 Wednesday morning. Sheriff Jack Laurie says that upon arrival, he and a deputy made entry into the quarry using two different entry points. Soon after entering, the deputy discovered two individuals in the workshop area, who then fled the area.
The Atchison Police Department was called in to assist, and the front part of the quarry was searched, but the decision was made soon after to temporarily hold back on the search until the Kansas Highway Patrol Canine Unit could arrive to assist in the search.
While waiting for the KHP, Laurie and a deputy were able to locate and take into custody one of the suspects, 28-year-old Anthony Pennington, who was treated for injuries sustained while running through the quarry, before being transported to the Atchison County Jail.
The second suspect, 20-year-old Jonathan Turner, was later located by the KHP canine unit in the northeast part of the quarry.
Both Turner and Pennington are facing charges of burglary, theft, criminal damage to property, criminal trespass, and interference with a law enforcement officer.
