(KNZA)--Details have been released on a two-vehicle crash in Holton Tuesday evening that sent a Topeka woman to the hospital with serious injuries.
According to the Holton Police Department, 46-year-old Tammy Calkins was traveling north on U.S. 75 Highway, near Columbine Drive, when her 2008 Honda Accord crossed the center line, sideswiping a southbound semi tractor-trailer.
Police say the semi driver, Spencer, Iowa resident 52-year-old Michael Hoy, had seen the car coming toward him and pulled his rig to the side of the road to avoid a head-on collision.
Calkins was transported to the Holton Community Hospital for treatment of injuries. Hoy was not hurt.
Holton Police Chief Gale Gakle told the Holton Recorder that Calkins had suffered a diabetic emergency, which caused her to cross the highway’s center line. He said she had a few near misses with other vehicles before the collision with the semi.
