(KMZA)--A hearing has been set for the closure of the B & B Junior/Senior High School.
During their regular meeting this week, the Nemaha Central Board of Education approved publication of a notice setting a hearing for Thursday, February 20th at 7 in the evening in the B & B main gym. The notice will be published at least once each week for two consecutive weeks in the local newspaper.
In accordance with state statute, prior to adopting a resolution to close a school building, the Board of Education must hold a hearing on the proposal.
The board voted last year to close the B & B school at the end of the 2013-2014 school year. Students are to attend school in Seneca beginning in the 2014-2015 school year.
In other business, the board approved the replacement of bleachers in the main gym at the Nemaha Valley High School by selecting a bid from Shawnee, Ks-based Interkal Inc. at a cost of $130,394. Following discussion of the type of back rests included in the bid which are individual “Comfo-Back”, Superintendent Darrel Kohlman was asked to inquire about changing the back rests on part of the bleachers. There was concern that individual back rests may not be comfortable for some people.
The board also approved bids from NL Driveway Maintenance to fill cracks and reseal the parking lots at the elementary and middle schools for a total cost of $19,617.
Other projects to be considered for the summer will be gym floor painting and refinishing, painting both of the high school gym walls, replacement of the 2008 buses, art tables and stools and security upgrades.
