(KLZA) -- There were no students on board an Auburn Public Schools bus involved in an accident with a semi-trailer truck Monday morning about two and-a-half miles north of Auburn on Highway 75.
The driver of the bus and a school district employee were both transported to the Nemaha County Hospital by ambulance for treatment of possible injuries.
Shortly before 11 a-m the bus used to transport pre-school students and the semi were both northbound on 75. According to the truck driver, 51-year-old Steven Kruse of Ozawkie, Kansas, he looked up at the John Deere dealership and when he looked back to the road, the bus was slowing to stop for a vehicle turning left. Kruse said he was unable to stop before striking the bus from the rear.
53-year-old Christin McNeely of Auburn was driving the bus. She suffered possible injuries. The other person on the bus was 50-year-old Stacey Wheeler of Auburn who suffered what were described as disabling injuries in the accident. Both drivers were wearing lap and shoulder belts. The passenger in the bus was not using a safety device.
The semi sustained an estimated $5,000 in damage and the bus sustained an estimated $10,000 in damage.
No citations were issued. The accident was investigated by the Nemaha County Sheriff’s Department.
