Cold Weather Halts Hiawatha Sewer Project
01/03/2014

(KNZA)--The cold weather has put a halt on Hiawatha’s sanitary sewer system improvement project.

The City Commission this week approved “ stop work” orders for the two contractors on the 1st phase of improvements to the city’s sewer system--  Engemann Drainage Company and Utility Solutions. Project Manager Galen Lay with TREKK Design Group recommended the stop work orders until more favorable weather returns.

In other business, the commission approved an agreement with South Wind Ventures for the lease of the former city hall building at 723 Oregon at a rate of $1,000 per month.  The building will be leased until the new Public Works building is complete, which is expected in about a month.

And the commission approved an ordinance rezoning property located at 113 Mohawk Avenue from a residential to business district. The city Planning Commission recommended the zoning change to be consistent with the adjoining property owned by Pederson Seed at 900 South 1st Street.
