(KAIR)--A house fire Monday morning in Jefferson County claims the life of an elderly man.
According to a press release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office, responders were called to 8385 Hamilton Road in rural Ozawkie shortly after 6:15 Monday morning. An individual was found dead in the residence.
Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Herrig said the owner of the residence lived alone and is believed to be victim, but the body has been sent to First Call Morgue in Kansas City to be officially identified.
Fire departments from Fairview, Ozawkie, Oskaloosa and Kentucky Townships fought the fire, with the Jefferson County Ambulance and Coroner standing by to offer assistance as needed.
Herrig said the house was completely destroyed.
The Kansas State Fire Marshall and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
