(KNZA)--Two 20-year-olds were taken into custody following a chase near Holton Saturday afternoon.
Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse says an off-duty deputy with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department reported a possible impaired driver in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Holton driving recklessly shortly after 1 o’clock.
Morse says officers attempted to stop the 1995 Ford Contour west of Holton on K-16 Highway, but the vehicle continued westbound at a high rate of speed. The chase ended on K-16, west of H Road, about 8 miles west of Holton.
The driver, Kyle Chavez-Majors, of El Dorado, were taken into custody at the scene. He was booked into the Jackson County Jail for felony fleeing and eluding, driving under the influence, driving while suspended, and reckless driving and was cited with numerous traffic infractions.
A passenger in the vehicle, Michael Lee Ray Herndon, of Chetopa, Kansas, was taken into custody for minor in consumption.
Officers with the Holton Police Department and Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism assisted. A Kansas Highway Patrol aircraft unit was also enroute to assist with the pursuit.
