(MSC News)--A Kansas representative plans a preemptive strike against government spying.
According to Kansas Watchdog, Shawnee Republican on Wednesday unveiled the bill he plans to introduce during the 2014 legislative session beginning in January.
Dubbed the Fourth Amendment Preservation and Protection Act,” the legislation would require a warrant or court order to obtain digital information.
Hildabrand says such information should be given the same search and seizure protections as a person’s physical mailbox.
He tells Kanas Watchdog that the legislation comes in response to stories of law enforcement searching cell phones during routine traffic stops, Google releasing user data to the government and concerns regarding police use of automatic license plate readers to assemble a database able to track individual's whereabouts.
