(KNZA)--The preliminary hearing for a Troy woman accused of identity fraud and phone harassment has been postponed to next month.
A Brown County judge granted a request Wednesday for a continuance by the court-appointed attorney for 23-year-old Molly Smith, and rescheduled the hearing for December 18th.
Smith is charged with four felony counts—including three counts of identity fraud and one count of criminal threat—along with three misdemeanor counts of harassment by telephone.
She is accused of assuming a fake identity in order to text various individuals in the Hiawatha area and then providing them with misinformation.
Brown County Attorney Kevin Hill says the alleged victims in the case have ties to the Hiawatha Community Hospital where Smith worked as a records clerk at the time of her arrest.
Smith was arrested November 5th following an investigation by the Brown County Sheriff’s Department. She is currently free on bond.
