SNAP Benefits to be Cut November 1
(KTNC) - Those receiving SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits will notice a smaller amount starting November 1st. U-S Department of Agriculture Under Secretary Kevin Concannon says the federal government increased the amount 13% back in 2009 to help those struggling during the recession.
That was a temporary increase and the benefit goes back to pre-recession levels November 1st. Concannon says every person receiving the benefit will see a decreased amount.
SNAP recipients will notice about an $11 drop in their monthly benefit and a family of four about $36 less. Concanon says every person receiving the benefit will see a decreased amount.
The total amount cut to the state of Nebraska totals about 18-million dollars. About 180-thousand Nebraskans or 10% of the population receive SNAP benefits.
