(KLZA) -- Mound City School Board members last week approved the district taking part in the A-Plus program. Through this program Mound City students that meet the requirements from the Missouri Department of Education as well as the local guidelines of the Mound City School District can earn up to two years of free college education following their graduation from high school.
Board members also gave tentative approval to a contract to take part in the Brightergy Solar Project. The Boards is requesting a couple of changes concerning an escalator clause in the lease payments. If given final approval, solar panels will be set up at the Mound City school that will help with energy costs for the district. Superintendent Ken Eaton talked about the expected savings which are project to total about $105,000 over the 20 years of the program.
Staff members Shelley Eaton and Connor Dignan provided the Board with updates on their class activities. Mrs. Eaton is a Guidance Counselor and Librarian and will help coordinate the A-Plus program. Mr. Dignan is the Ag teacher. Parents and Teachers Coordinator Gwen Knowles submitted a written overview of the programs objectives and future funding plans. Elementary Principal Jan Seitz presented a review of the Special Education Program.
Board members approved changes to the Activities Guidelines submitted by Principal Korey Miles consolidating and clarifying unsportsmanlike incidents in athletic competition and the discipline to follow.
Superintendent Eaton also informed the Board of discussions he has had with companies concerning possible building upgrades concerning safety and ADA accessibility.
It was also noted that Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held this week at the Mound City School.
