(KMZA)--The Nemaha Central Thunder.
USD 115 Superintendent Darrel Kohlman says that was the mascot chosen by students Wednesday for the new Nemaha Central Middle School and High School, effective for the 2014-2015 school year.
6th through 11th grade students at Nemaha Valley and B & B schools along with 8th grade students at the Sts. Peter and Paul School voted on the new mascot from among three suggestions, which also included the Titans and Jaguars.
The USD 115 board of education Monday evening was given a list of five mascots suggestions by a committee comprised of students and staff and then narrowed that down to three for students to vote on. There were more than 40 original suggestions received from the community.
Kohlman said the next step in the process is to have students and the community work on the development of a logo to represent the new mascot. He said any original artwork for a logo can be emailed to Kohlman at dkohlman@usd115.org or dropped off at the district office in Seneca.
