(KNZA)--Holton voters will go to the polls November 5th to decide the fate of a half cent sales tax increase for infrastructure upkeep and to reduce the city's indebtedness.
The Holton City Commission this week scheduled a town hall meeting on the sales tax proposal for Monday, October 21st at 6:30 p.m., prior to their regular meeting.
City Manager Bret Bauer says the sales tax is estimated to bring in an additional $385,000 annually.
If approved, the sales tax would take effect January 1st, and includes a 10-year sunset provision.
Currently, the city of Holton has a quarter-cent sales tax in place that’s used for city street improvement projects.
The deadline for Holton residents to register to vote in the special election is the close of business on October 21st.
If you will be 18 years of age before Election Day and are a resident of Holton, you may register at the Jackson County Clerk’s office or by mail.
Those registering for the first time in Kansas must submit evidence of U.S. citizenship.
