Change of Venue Possible for Doniphan Co Case
10/02/2013

(KNZA)--A hearing on a motion requesting a change of venue for a Highland man charged in connection with events surrounding a suspicious death is now set for October 30th.

A jury trial for Morton Alfrey had been scheduled for this week in Doniphan County District Court.

Alfrey pleaded “ not guilty” in April to felony charges of aggravated intimidation of a witness and obstruction of apprehension or prosecution along with a misdemeanor count of unlawfully hosting minors consuming alcoholic beverages.

The charges arise from a party that authorities say was held at Alfrey’s home the night of January 5th, which allegedly included several minors consuming alcohol.  A Highland police officer responding to a call at the residence found the body of 30-year-old John Paul Jenkins.

Alfrey was arrested January 23rd following an investigation by the Highland Police Department and Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
