(KNZA)--A two-vehicle accident on U.S. 36 Highway in Doniphan County early Friday afternoon near the Missouri state line sent three St. Joseph residents to the hospital.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 25-year-old Kyle Merrick was driving a trash truck on the shoulder of the highway at a slow rate of speed when a semi Freightliner made a u-turn in front of his vehicle. Merrick swerved, causing him to lose control of his vehicle and overturn.
Merrick and two passengers, 29-year-old Christopher Ray and 40-year-old Robert Lloyd, were transported to Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph with disabling injuries.
The driver of the Freightliner, a Michigan man, was not hurt.
