 Nature and family fun activities to mark National Hunting and Fishing Day

 Kansas City – Autumn is always a fine time to enjoy the outdoors. But extra fun is in store for those who venture to the National Hunting and Fishing Day activities 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the James A. Reed Memorial Wildlife Area, 12405 S.E. Ranson Road in Lee’s Summit.

   The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and Ducks Unlimited (DU) will hosts activities enjoyable for both veteran outdoor enthusiasts and those who would like an introduction to outdoor sports. All activities are free.

   MDC will provide shotguns and ammunition for trapshooting. Instruction will be available for newcomers. A target archery and an air rifle range will also be available.

   Ducks Unlimited will offer free Greenwing memberships for youths. Experts will talk about the value of wetlands and uplands to wildlife. Visitors can explore a duck wing maze.

   The youth fishing pond at the Reed Area will be open to families. MDC staff will provide equipment, bait and fishing tips.

   Visitors can touch real animal furs and test your wildlife identification skills. Conservation partners will have exhibits.
