(KTNC) - Shelves of the SENCA Food Pantry are a little more full after the Richardson County Fair.
Humboldt area churches, led by the United Methodist Church and Humboldt Christian Church, and a team of volunteers collected approximately 900 pounds of food, personal hygiene items and other supplies during the Fair. The donations will benefit SENCA Food Pantries in Falls City and Humboldt.
The churches asked people who attended the three Fair Parades to bring donations that volunteers collected during the parades. Many people responded by donating bags of canned vegetables or fruit, soup, tuna, paper towels, laundry detergent, and other items, to volunteers who were walking the parade route.
The food drive was the brainchild of Humboldt United Methodist Church Pastor Michael McKee.
SENCA officials say that with fewer grant dollars available to help emergency food programs, events such as the County Fair Food Drive help fill a void created by budget cuts.
