(KNZA)--A familiar face in local law enforcement returns to a top spot of leadership.
Former Atchison County Sheriff John Calhoon now becomes the City of Horton Chief of Police following a vote of the City Commission during Monday night's meeting.
One of three finalists for the position, Calhoon was selected on a vote of the Commission following two executive sessions held during the meeting. Only Commissioner Al Barton opposed Calhoon's hiring.
Calhoon, a former resident of Brown County, served for nearly 19-years as Atchison County Sheriff prior to his defeat in last November's election.
In March, he joined the Jackson County Sheriff's department as a Captain 3rd in command, overseeing the jail along with other responsibilities.
Calhoon replaces former Horton Police Chief Beau Hasenhor who resigned in August, and will officially begin his duties as Police Chief September 30th.
