(KTNC) - Charges have been filed against the driver and a passenger of a vehicle involved in a police pursuit through Auburn late Saturday night.
The Nemaha County Sheriff’s Department says a deputy stopped a Ford Mustang with Missouri license plates near Central Avenue and N Street shortly after 11:00 p.m. Saturday. The driver, 31-year-old Thomas Davis, fled the scene and led deputies on a chase through residential areas of Auburn south of Highway 136.
A passenger, later identified as 28-year-old Brooke Stewart, jumped out of the vehicle near 23rd and S. The Mustang continues south on S Street before running into a ditch at 27th and S, where the driver fled on foot.
Davis was arrested later Sunday morning, after the Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office received information of a man fitting Davis’ description walking on 638 Avenue just south of Highway 136.
Davis faces four felony charges, child abuse, failure to stop for an accident, criminal impersonation, and operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest.
Brooke Stewart was arrested at a residence near 24th and S Street. She faces charges including felony child abuse and criminal impersonation.
The child abuse charges were filed after officers found two children, unrestrained, in the back seat of the Mustang after it was ditched. The children were treated for minor injuries at the Nemaha County Hospital and were later turned over to the Department of Health and Human Services.
Both Davis and Stewart are due in court on Tuesday.
The Otoe County and Richardson County Sheriff’s Departments assisted in the search Sunday morning.
