Public Health Warning Issued for Horton's Mission Lake
09/06/2013

(KNZA)--A public health warning has been issued for Horton’s Mission Lake due to high levels of toxic blue-green algae.

That word Friday from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

KDHE says two other area lakes—the Hiawatha City Lake and Atchison’s Warnock Lake—also remain under a warning status.

A public health warning indicates that water conditions are unsafe and direct water contact is prohibited.

Fish can still be eaten from the lakes, but they should be thoroughly cleaned and only the fillet portion eaten.
