(MSC News)--Raising money for the arts.
That's the reason behind a new Kansas license plate set to go on sale in an attempt to raise $100,000 annually for arts programs.
Peter Jasso is the Director of the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission who says those who wish to take part in the “Driving the Arts” campaign, and purchase the arts themed license plate, can do so for $50.00 a year.
The goal is to have 2,000 sign-ups by April 1st, 2014.
The Arts Commission is a division of the State Commerce Department, and was formed when the former arts commission was defunded, and ultimately disbanded, under the leadership of Kansas Governor Sam Brownback. The Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission is intended to be more focused in its misssion, with an emphasis on job creation.
The defunding by the Brownback administration initally caused waves in the state arts community, hit hard when the National Endowment for the Arts pulled funding due to Brownback's maneuvers. However, just last week, the national group announced that it will restore $560,000 in arts grants to Kansas.
