(KTNC) - A heat advisory is in effect for the tri-state area this (Friday) afternoon. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory from noon until 7:00 p.m. for a large section of the Midwest, including eastern Nebraska, northeast Kansas, and northwest Missouri.
Temperatures are expected to climb into the mid to upper 90s this afternoon. The temperatures will combine with high humidity to create heat index values from 103 to 108 degrees for a time this afternoon.
The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create an increased threat for heat exhaustion or heat stroke, especially for those working outdoors.
Remember to drink plenty of fluids – especially water – stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors.
Prichard Auditorium in Falls City is open as a cooling center for those seeking relief from the heat, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. through Labor Day.
