(KLZA) -- 46 year old Eugene Volker of Humboldt sustained a disabling injury in a one vehicle accident just after 2 p-m Monday afternoon on Highway 50 approximately three miles south of DuBois, less than a half mile north of the Nebraska – Kansas state line.
Volker was northbound on Highway 50, slowing down as he approached a bridge. As he crossed the bridge he said the front end of the one ton flatbed truck he was driving started to shake. Volker was towing a goose neck trailer. Volker told Pawnee County Sheriff Jayme Reed he was unable to stop due to the trailer pushing the truck.
The truck went off the left side of the road and rolled into a ditch ending up on its top with the trailer on top of the rear axle. The truck was totaled.
The vehicle is owned by State Line Ag Enterprises of Dawson.
Volker was transported to the Pawnee County Hospital by Pawnee City EMS for observation and was released. Volker was not wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident. No citations were issued.
