(KNTC) - Water rates will increase in Pawnee City as of October first. The city council approved the final reading of an amended water rate ordinance Monday night that increases both the base rate and usage fee.
Beginning October 1, the base rate for a three-quarter-inch meter will increase $1.50 to $24.50 per month. The water usage fees will increase from $1.50 to $2 per thousand gallons.
Under the amended ordinance, the base rate will increase at least 50-cents annually through 2016.
The council approved a couple resolutions as well Monday night.
City Clerk Tammy Stephens says the council unanimously approved a resolution designating the area in front of Nider’s Thriftway and the SENCA Building as a no parking zone. (play audio :15 “grocery store.”)
The area will be designated as a pick-up and drop-off zone.
Another resolution the council approved clarifies the amount of money the Airport Authority is to borrow for its runway expansion project. Stephens explains the Airport Authority will still maintain a $150,000 line of credit at the State Bank of Table Rock. (play audio :27 “some property.”)
The federal government will pick up 90-percent of the cost of the project costs, and Stephens says the $150,000 should cover phase one and phase two of the three-part project.
In other business, the Pawnee City Council approved the Solid Waste Disposal Agreement with Seneca Sanitation, with no changes to the contract. The council also approved the P-C-D-C Audit as presented by Suzanne Borcher.
And Stephens says Pawnee City will begin enforcing an ordinance that requires residents to mow their property up to the roadside.
