(KNZA)--The Holton City Budget for 2014 is finalized with no increase to taxpayers.
That follows a budget hearing held in front of the Holton City Commission’s regular meeting Monday evening.
Commissioners had planned to maintain the mill levy at the same rate as last year, and managed to do so heading into the new year.
Holton City Manager Bret Bauer says the mill levy remains steady at 54.293 mills.
Instead of pushing for an increase now, Commissioners have set their sights on a possible half-percent sales tax increase.
Bauer says the generated funds, if approved, would bring in an estimated
$396,000 annually for maintenance of the city’s infrastructure and payment of the city’s debts.
The increase will be placed before voters during a special election in November.
