(KNZA)--Another scam, this one attempted by email, makes it’s way across the local area; and, like the other recipients, this radio station was an intended victim of the scammer.
This latest case involves an unexpected email, bearing the name of a local resident, seeking emergency money. Authorities say it’s apparent that the email has somehow been hacked with the sender unaware that his email account is being used to send the message.
The email claims that the sender, while vacationing in the Philippines, was mugged at gun point. Claiming to now have no money, the email states that the hotel manager won’t let him leave until all bills are paid. The message then asks the recipient to reply to the email for details on how to send nearly $3,000 in order to cover those debts.
Authorities say not to respond to the email, as it’s an obvious scam, and no personal information, or money, should be provided in this or any similar situations.
