( KNZA )-- A resurfacing project began Tuesday on a 13-mile stretch of K-116 Highway in Jackson and Atchison Counties.
The Kansas Department of Transportation says project will take place from the
K-16 junction east of Holton to Decatur Road in Atchison County. The project includes pavement patching, followed by a two-inch surface recycle and a final chip seal application.
Work will take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, with some occasional Saturday work.
While the project is underway, eastbound and westbound K-116 will be reduced to one lane for both directions in three-mile increments. Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via a pilot car operation during daylight hours only.
Drivers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes maximum and are encouraged to use alternate routes, if possible.
Dustrol Inc. of Towanda is the primary contractor on the $1.2 million project, which is scheduled for completion in early September, weather permitting.
