(KAIR)--It's back to the drawing board for USD 377, as leaders of the Effingham-based Atchison County Schools revise plans for facility upgrades.
The work would be funded through a bond issue, if voters see fit, but, for now, the resolution approving the initiative remains on hold.
At issue is the size of a proposed new facility, to house preschool through 8th grades, selected from options chosen by patrons.
However, currently carrying a price tag of $16.7 million, Superintendent Steve Wiseman says addressing the square footage of the proposed construction, prior to asking voters to approve a bond issue for funding, is a must.
In order to bring the cost down, and to make sure the size is right for the district, a July 23rd meeting, including the contracted firm HTK Architechts of Topeka and Overland Park, will be held.
Once the modifications are complete, the USD 377 Board of Education looks to move forward with passage of the referendum for the bond issue.
Postponing the passage earlier this month, the board plans to grant approval during their meeting on July 25th.
