(KAIR)--A Kansas City area man is now jailed in Jefferson County, held on charges related to the felony theft of a vehicle.
Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Herrig says Aaron Purinton is accused of stealing a vehicle from a convenience store in Perry two weeks ago, leaving his personal vehicle, registered in his name, in its place.
It was later, Herrig says, that Purinton, who fled to Oklahoma City, notified authorities in that location that he had stolen a pick-up truck, and was taken into custody, near the truck, without incident.
According to Herrig, Purinton tells investigators he became paranoid, allegedly having tried methamphetimine for the first time prior to the theft, and that's why he switched vehicles.
Returned to Jefferson County custody, the 27-year-old Purinton is currently held on bond of $40,000.
