Man Dies After Hanging Himself in Gage County Jail
(KLZA) A 30-year-old man who hanged himself in a Beatrice jail cell has died in a Lincoln hospital.
The Gage County Attorney's Office says Chad Gesin died Tuesday morning. An autopsy has been ordered, and a grand jury will be investigating. State law requires such investigations whenever someone dies in custody or while being arrested.
Gesin had been arrested on suspicion of domestic assault and assault around 5:15 p.m. on July 4. A court document says two officers had seen Gesin punch another man in downtown Beatrice. A woman who had been talking to Gesin told the officers that Gesin had earlier grabbed her neck when they were at a convenience store.
Authorities say Gesin hanged himself not long after he was put in a cell at the Gage County Jail.
