(KTNC) - The Pawnee City Council held a budget workshop prior to Monday night’s regular meeting.
City Clerk Tammy Stephens says the council met with City Auditor Julie Bauman at 6:00 p.m. They discussed preliminary budget information, including an increase in the city’s water rate as of October 1st. (play cut :49 oc: “in front of them.”)
During the regular meeting, the council approved a water rate increase. As of October 1st, the base rate will increase $2.50 to $24.50 per month, and will increase by 50-cents each year through 2016. The usage fee will also increase from $1.50 to $2.00 per thousand gallons of water used. (play audio :18 oc: “gallons of water.”)
Stephens says the water rate increase is to allow Pawnee City to pay for needed repairs and painting inside the water tower.
In other action Monday night, the Pawnee City Council approved the salary ordinance, which provides a one-and-a-half percent pay raise to city employees, including the part-time office clerk and part-time librarian. The ordinance also brings the City Clerk’s salary in line with the Shop Foreman’s salary. The salary ordinance was approved 3-1, with council member John Dahlgren voting against the increase.
The council also approved the annual city donations to various local organizations. Stephens says those remain the same as previous years. (play audio :29 oc: “movie nights.”)
The council vote to approve the donations was also 3-1, with council member Deb Klein voting no. Stephens says there were questions whether the county could help pay for the fireworks and whether PCDC could help some of the organizations.
