(KAIR)--No injuries are reported following a house fire on the north side of Atchison Saturday afternoon.
According to the Atchison Fire Department Captain Lee Kipple, it happened at 1026 Hickory, with the nephew of the home's resident awakened by the smell of smoke around 1:15.
Firefighters rushed to the scene and saw smoke showing from the outside, with the home's small basement, kitchen and portions of the 2nd floor of the residence found to be on fire.
Crews were able to extinguish the blaze, but the damage makes the home uninhabitable.
The resident of the home, identified as Valerie Ford, was at work when the fire broke out.
Kipple says a cause is not yet officially determined with the investigation continuing.
