( KNZA )--A Mayetta man has been arrested in connection with the theft of thousands of dollars in cattle panels from a rural Hoyt farm.
Sheriff Tim Morse says 32-year-old Timothy Allensworth was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Jackson County Jail on charges of burglary, felony theft and criminal trespass.
Allensworth is accused of taking 23 cattle panels, as well as a gate and frame, from a farm located at 9999 O.4 Road just north of the Shawnee County line sometime after June 20th. The loss was estimated at more than $4,000.
Soon after the theft, Morse says sheriff’s investigators obtained a photo of a subject believed to be Allensworth with the missing panels at a Topeka scrap yard.
He says a 1989 Ford F-150 pickup truck believed to haven been used in connection with the crime was seized by the Sheriff’s Office.
Recently, Morse says the Sheriff’s Office has been aggressively pursuing metal thieves and in the attempt to deter these crimes from occurring has seized several vehicles that had been used in carrying out these types of crimes.
