( KNZA )--Unemployment was up in most area northeast Kansas counties in May.
The Kansas Department of Labor released the May unemployment rates Friday.
Leavenworth County was the only county to see a drop in its jobless rate, falling from 6.8 percent in April to 6.6 percent in May.
Atchison County had the highest jobless rate at 9.9 percent, while Nemaha County had the lowest at 3.8 percent.
Elsewhere, Doniphan County’s jobless rate in May stood at 6.8 percent; Jackson, 6.7 percent; Jefferson, 6.6 percent; Brown, 5.8 percent; Pottawatomie, 5.6 percent; and Marshall., 4.1 percent.
All the unemployment rates were up from one year ago.
Statewide, the unemployment rate rose slightly in May to 5.7 percent.
