06/19/2013

Danny Groshong

( KAIR/KNZA )--A 22-year-old Horton man who had faced a felony charge of criminal possession of a firearm in Atchison County has pleaded guilty to an amended charge.

Danny Groshong entered the plea Monday in Atchison County District Court to a misdemeanor charge of interference with law enforcement and was sentenced to a year in jail.

A jury trial in the case had been set for Tuesday.

Groshong was arrested early March 14th by Atchison Police after they received reports of gunshots fired in a north Atchison neighborhood.  Police say a rifle was found in the back seat of his car after he was stopped a short time later.

Groshong was sentenced in May to nearly 13 years in prison in Brown County on charges of rape and aggravated indecent liberties with a child after his probation was revoked.

He was convicted as a juvenile in 2008 on the charges and was found to have violated conditions of his probation.

His Atchison County sentence will be served concurrently with the Brown County sentence.
