Concealed Weapons to be Allowed in Nemaha Co Buildings

( KMZA )--Beginning July 1st, residents with concealed carry permits will be allowed to carry firearms in county owned buildings in Nemaha County--including the Nemaha County Courthouse.

Nemaha County Attorney Brad Lippert met with the county commission Monday to discuss the new state law that takes effect July 1st requiring local governments to allow concealed weapons in public buildings unless they have an adequate plan for security at the buildings. However, local governments can request a six-month exemption from the law until January 1st.

Following discussion, the commission decided not to seek an exemption and to abide by the law beginning July 1st.

In other business, the commission adopted a resolution appointing Betty Roeder as Nemaha County Appraiser for another 4-year term running from July 1st of this year through June 30th, 2017.
